KEY SKILL SHORTAGES IDENTIFIED AND ANALYSED

What skills will we need in our organisation as automotive evolves into mobility?

A major research project carried out by Ennis & Co has revealed an acute skills shortage across the automotive and mobility industry, leaving many businesses ill-equipped to take advantage of technological advances in electrification and digitalisation.

In-depth interviews with senior executives from all areas of the industry – including CEOs, Vice-Presidents and Presidents – have shown that skills gaps at all levels of seniority are one of the biggest threats to their organisation’s bottom line, with competition for talent leading to soaring wage inflation.

The research paper, Skills Evolution Roadmap 2025, examines how the industry is responding to the skills crisis and provides a framework for business leaders to build their recruitment and retention strategies.

I do think the industry is at such a critical juncture. I think the skill set difference is profound. Automotive companies are going to be faced with trying to strike the balance of traditional automotive capabilities with outside fresh perspective.

What people want, particularly following the onset of the pandemic, is to work for a company that has a great culture, is values driven and has a clear vision and a sustainable business model.
