Even before we were faced with a global pandemic… our industry had been gearing up to transformation for a long time.
Organisational changes will of course see different patterns emerging following COVID-19, yet it completely confirms that preparation is key, and people are of paramount importance.
Ensuring your employees are looked after during all stages of their time with your organisation is an extremely integral component of being a fantastic HR practitioner. Therefore, we took a little time to speak with Clare Martin, Group HR Director at Jardine Motors Group, to gauge her views. Clare has worked closely with Ennis & Co on a number of assignments over the years and we wanted to find out more specifically about her experience with Ennis & Co’s outplacement services from a client perspective – and why she thinks outplacements are more important now than ever before.
How did you find the outplacement experience Ennis & Co provided from a client perspective?
“It was excellent. We’ve used Ennis & Co in the past for Directors and it’s always been an excellent service that they give – in terms of it being very bespoke. It’s not an “off the shelf” level of service – it’s understanding us as an organisation, understanding the individual and understanding the market. In terms of credibility, I think Ennis & Co truly go the extra mile when it comes to truly supporting people in their career transitions.”
What would you consider the highlights of this service to be?
“I think because the needs are tailored to the individual it’s unique. Ennis & Co’s success is built on the fact that they build long term relationships and it is about reciprocal business. It is a real USP. It’s something special and different.”
What would your advice be for use of outplacement services in the future?
“I think outplacement support is even more important in our current times, given the changes the COVID crisis has created in the job market, there is so much talent available so it’s important to find someone who is the right fit for your organisation. In many circumstances, especially in the motor retail sector, people have only ever worked for often one or two companies, so going out into the market is quite daunting. Therefore, being able to support people in their ongoing career is incredibly important.
When you’ve invested so much in them previously, and while we all need to make difficult decisions about losing people and moving people on, I believe it’s the least that people can do when supporting individuals because this is what creates advocacy from those individuals when they transition their career.
It’s the right thing to do, to offer outplacement support for those that need it. “
How Ennis & Co can support moving forward…
