The Cost of the Skills Gap – Alison Jones of Stellantis

Alison Jones’s impressive CV includes 21 years at Volkswagen, where she began as sales director for Audi and rose through the ranks to eventually run aftersales care for VW’s brands in 800 locations across the UK.

She was appointed group MD of Peugeot, Citroen, DS Automobiles in the UK and senior vice-president for Groupe PSA in February 2019, and when the brands were merged under the Stellantis umbrella in 2021, Alison became Country Manager UK and Senior Vice-President for Peugeot, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Abarth, Jeep and Alfa Romeo.

Twice scooping the title of Autocar Great Women top female executive in the British car industry, she is also the president of the SMMT.

Alison’s current role as Senior Vice President, Global Circular Economy focuses on sustainability. The Circular Economy Business Unit aims to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2038, through a 4R strategy of remanufacture, repair, reuse, and recycle – to meet the Company’s ethical responsibilities for the future, and to bring financial value to Stellantis.

With such a high target in focus, this means that reducing waste and improving the profitable recycling of its cars needs to be done in ever more radical ways, requiring modern thinking, new ways of working and, of course, a complex skill set.

Here, Alison explains that changing skills requirements are one of the biggest skills challenges that forward-thinking automotive businesses have in the current market.
