The Cost of the Skills Gap – Mike Johnstone of Group Lotus

As Group Lotus’ Vice-President, Commercial, Mike Johnstone leads global commercial operations. Joining from a previous role as the global marketing lead for Volvo Cars in Sweden, Mike has also previously held various sales and marketing roles at major brands including Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki Motors.


Lotus Cars stands alone as a brand dedicated to pure drivers’ cars. For over 70 years they have remained true to the ethos of founder Colin Chapman, using innovative engineering, cutting-edge technologies and advanced materials to ensure the performance standards associated with the Lotus badge.


Celebrating their 75th anniversary this year, seven and a half decades of innovation and success have helped shape the motoring and motorsport landscapes of today, and have created some of the world’s most renowned and loved cars.


They are now looking forward to what the fourth quarter of the company’s first century will look like, and skills will play an important role as they head towards this milestone.


In our short video, Mike talks about how important it is to understand the financial implications of a skills gap, saying that while different people may have their own perspective on talent resourcing needs, with clear financials attached, it makes discussions around budgeting clearer.
